Mrs. Chorpenning and Mrs. Vonderau's classes are infusing the arts and literature together in their reading classes. Last week was the finale of a study of The Three Nanny Goats Gruff. The classes started the unit by reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Next, a few reading groups performed the Reader's Theater. The reading unit included comparing and contrasting different versions of the story, breaking the story up into elements, and fluency in our reading and speaking. On Friday, February 28th, both classes participted in the musical! With over 100 people in the audience, the first graders felt it was a huge success!
Every one of the first graders had a part to play. Parts were Narrators, Annie Goat, Fannie Goat, Big Bertha Lee Goat, Trolls, Butterflies, Bunnies, Bees and the Chorus. A special thanks to the DeKalb High School Club for painting our backdrops and props, the Country Meadow Cafeteria Staff, Fifth Grade Leadership Team helpers, Ms. Clark, Mr. Moeller, Mrs. Gentis, Mr. Miner, Miss Morey, Mrs. Spade and Tri-Wall for the donation of the cardboard used for the props.
